Overview
What is Arena?: Arena is a mode in MSF where players face off against each other in PvP(e) style combat with their best teams. You take your offense team up against another player's defense team. The defense is controlled by an AI but another player set that team as their defense. You have 5 minutes to win the fight. If you win you and the player you just fought switch rankings. If you lose or the timer runs out you and the other player both stay at whatever rank you were before. You may fight up to 5 times each day and there is a 15 minute cooldown period where you cannot attack again (unless you pay with cores).
Set Your Defense
This is the part of Arena that most newer players forget, but it also the most important part of Arena. To set your Defense Team click on the "Set Defense" button on the Arena main screen. Then select your Defense Team. As your roster grows or as new Meta Teams are added to the game you may want to change your Defense.
Attacking
Unlike Blitz, Arena is not against every other player in the game. Instead the game splits players up into groups, called Shards. You are assigned a Shard when you start playing Arena and every so often Shards can combine together (although the game does not tell you when this happens).
When you want to increase your Arena Rank you battle other players. You get 5 battles per day for free then battles cost Cores if you want to play more.
You are given 3 possible enemy teams to fight. These teams are set by other players in the game but are controlled by AI when you fight them. You can refresh the list of 3 players to try and find a team you want to beat. The 3 teams will roughly be up to 10% better rank than your current rank. E.g. if you are rank 1000, you will see teams up to around rank 900 or so. This means you climb slower the better you are ranked. If you lose you will remain at your original rank. If you win you and the player you beat switch ranks.
Once you have selected a team to fight you will select your own team to face off against them. The game will default your team to the last team you used in arena. If this is your first time in arena the team will be made up of your strongest characters and you may want to adjust the team yourself. You have 1 minute to start the battle, otherwise it sends you back to the enemy selection screen.
Now you just need to win!
In the bottom right corner is a 'REFRESH' button. If you press this button the enemies you have the option to fight with update, giving you a different set of teams to fight. Note: the higher your rank the less the button will change the possible enemies.
If you win: you and the player you beat will switch rank.
If you lose: you will remain at the rank you were before the attack.
Now that you have fought in Arena you are put on a 15 minute cool-down period where you cannot fight again (unless you pay cores to attack again during this period*) The timer starts from the moment you enter a fight so once you finish the battle the timer will say less than 15 minutes left.
